Friday night’s bout at the Urban Village Resort in Blackpool is against Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno for an International Title, rather than the original substitute William Warburton.

Davies said: “This has hardly been ideal preparation, what with the number of opponents and the re-scheduling of the date, but it is a vital experience, as these things happen in boxing.”

“Not being sure of my opponent the week before my fight is not great, but it is just one of those things and I will have to get on with it.”

“As disappointing as this is, unfortunately this is boxing, and these things can happen.”

“I just have to ensure that I am mentally prepared for Friday night.”

“I am willing to fight anyone and I am confident of whomever I face, so in all honesty the opponent does not really matter to me.”

“What is important is I get in the ring on Friday, but on a good show, with a solid performance and get the right result to kick on.”

Davies continued: “One thing I do know is that the opponent will now likely be a tougher task than any of the other previous ones, but this should suit me well.”

“Aside from these issues, my camp has gone well and I feel fit and ready to go.”

“The two- week delay has just given me a little extra time to prepare and apply some extra finishing touches to the camp.”

Scheduled opponent Fidler failed the check weigh in, so Davies will instead meet William Warburton, who inflicted his only professional defeat to date – a stoppage nearly a year ago.

Middleweight Davies said: “I was firmly on track for the weight, so it is very disappointing as I had spent my entire camp preparing for a southpaw in Dave Fidler. I felt ready and confident.”

“As disappointing as it is, these things can happen in boxing. I just have to keep my head on the job and hope my chance comes sooner rather than later.”

Davies will meet Warburton for the minor British Challenge title. He said: “The opportunity to share the ring with Warburton again has been on my mind since he beat me last April. This is my chance to put things right and show how far I have come over the past year.”

“I am fighting an awkward competitor and a man who has soundly beaten me before, but anyone who knows me knows I have never done things the easy way.”

“This is something I feel I need to do and it almost seems like fate the way this opportunity has presented itself.”

The Central Area super-welterweight title bout against Dave Fidler, of Sheffield, will take place at the Village Urban Resort, Blackpool.

This is a switch from the original planned date in Rotherham seven days earlier.

Davies said: “It is a credit to my management team that we have managed to secure this fight in Blackpool and also to Fidler for stepping out of his back yard to face me in my home town.”

“This is a huge opportunity for me, fighting for a title in my ninth fight, but one which I have earned through hard work and dedication.”

“I am under no illusions that Dave Fidler is my biggest test to date.”

“He is a tough, awkward fighter with a very good record. He is also the reigning Central Area champion, so he has my upmost respect.”

“As a southpaw so he will present a new challenge and will be something I have to consider in my camp building up to this fight.”

Davies recently sparred with Sam Matkin, who beat Kirkham’s Adam Little for the Central Area super-lightweight title, and he knows he will be the underdog next month.

Davies said: “I am well aware of the difficulty of the task facing me on the 9th and in all fairness I recognise that I will not be the favourite to win this fight on paper, but I will put everything I have into the camp to ensure I am fully prepared come fight night and bring the title back to Blackpool.”

“I never turned to the professional ranks just to take part – I did it to win titles and make my family, my supporters and the people of Blackpool proud. I am thoroughly looking forward to making another step up and step forward in my career.”

Recipient of that early win was local favourite RP Davies (real name Ryan) who, with Mark Davies and Sean Thickett in his corner, wore down game Casey Blair, of Bangor, before condemning the Irishman to his sixth successive defeat.

The result produced two firsts, a first inside the distance win for Davies who, seemingly having put a setback at the hands of William Warburton last April behind him, has his eyes on a potential Central Area title later this year, and a first stoppage loss for Alan Wilton-trained Blair, who while bested, never stopped trying and pressed forward regularly.

The Verdict Davies continues to improve following his only career loss, and a shot at the Central Area title beckons.

Providing he comes through this weekend’s bout at the Village Urban Resort unscathed, Davies is in line for his first title fight.

The 28-year-old has been lined up to box Dave Fidler of Sheffield for the Central Area super-welterweight title at the Magna Centre in Rotherham on April 2.

Davies said: “I have had some great sparring rounds with Sam Matkin, Reece Cartwright, Jack Arnfield and Mark Jeffers.”

“The run-up to the fight this week has been all about refinement, speed work and sharpening.”

“I have to establish myself with a solid performance on Saturday, which should lead me on nicely to my next fight.”

“Obviously, what I do know is that this is a very big and important fight for me. The lad is coming over from Ireland looking to win. He has a bit of a different record compared to many of my previous opponents, with a similar number of fights to myself and a better win-to-loss ratio than others I have fought.”

“He will still have ambitions of winning things.”

Davies has won six of his seven fights, compared to Blair’s three out of eight.

The Blackpool boxer added: “I know this will be my toughest test to date and I feel ready.”

“I have known prior to the fight being confirmed, that providing I come through it unscathed I have a Central Area title Fight on April 2.”

“I have tried to keep this quite to an extent and focus on the immediate task in hand, taking things one fight at a time.”

“But as the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed and announced this title fight late last week, I have had to acknowledge that it is in the pipeline.”

The February 20 promotion also features unbeaten Blackpool super-welterweight Alex McCloy and Trevor ‘Wrecking’ Crewe, from Sunderland.

Davies’ Irish opponent Blair has won three and lost five of his eight bouts, while the Blackpool man has won six and lost one to date.

Davies said, “The step up to 8 rounds does not concern me and is something that I am relishing and I regularly exceed 8 rounds in sparring anyway.”

“But I know that this is another tough, tricky test and another step up for me.”

“Making a step up with every bout ensures I am constantly progressing and growing as a fighter. I am 28 but still relatively inexperienced.”

“I am eager to learn and improve and I think I am doing so, thanks in part to my baptism of fire in the professional ranks and my desire and drive to get better.”

“A win in this fight will put me on track for an area title shot later in the year. I am in professional boxing to win things.”

Davies, who is trained by his father Mark and Sean Thickett, has added Steve Easter to his back-up team.

“Steve is a big help and has always been involved, but we just wanted to officially bring him on board.”

“I cannot wait to get back in the ring on February 20th, after a short break since my last fight in December to recharge my batteries after a busy 2015. I feel fit and ready and am raring to put on a show come fight night.”

Davies Boxing Gym has opened on Clifton Trade Park, Brinwell Road, Blackpool and has been a lifelong ambition of the father and son team, who have ploughed a significant amount into the start up of this new venture.

As a former champion on the unlicensed boxing scene and currently in the infancy of his professional boxing career, Ryan Davies trains and works out of the facility, while his father Mark, a former professional footballer and amateur boxer, and now his boxing trainer, does the same. Davies Boxing Gym brings their extensive boxing, fitness and personal training experiences to their own private gym facility.

The gym provides boxing tuition, personal training, private group sessions and various open group classes and aims to provide a positive atmosphere and environment for people to train in, whether that be as an aspiring pugilist, to lose weight or generally keep fit.

The business opened with a soft launch in November, completely transforming the industrial site near the M55 in a matter of weeks and consists of a full size ring, various bags and balls and modern and traditional weights and functional training equipment. The walls are plastered with images of boxing legends past and present, like Evander Holyfield, Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr, with motivational and inspirational quotes from leading athletes littered amongst them.

Ryan Davies said, “Opening my own boxing gym has been a dream of mine and when this opportunity presented itself it was simply too good to ignore. I am proud of what we have created and the gym is exactly how I always imagined my own place to look. This venture is something that will benefit me in the short term, by providing me with a first class facility to train out of as I look to progress as a professional boxer, but also in the longer term, as this sport can be a very short career and this allows me to plan for life after boxing.“

Mark Davies added, “We wanted to create a first rate facility for those who wish to learn or develop boxing skills, or just generally train or keep fit, utilising the same facility and techniques as that of a professional boxer in a warm and friendly environment.“

“The initial opening period has been absolutely fantastic, it was always a risk opening our own gym, but we feel we offer something different and the response and feedback we have had has been great! We harbour ambitious growth plans to develop the business further in 2016 and our full class timetable will be released in the coming months. Currently, we are just running a single ‘boxfit’ class from 6 till 7pm Monday to Thursday, where we welcome anyone to come down and try it for themselves!“
