He meets George Rhodes Junior in the super-welterweight British challenge bout at the Hilton Hotel.

Davies said: ”It is a huge opportunity and the type that I have been asking for for a while now.”

“It is a tough fight, my hardest to date. On paper its a well matched fight and I am excited to get in the ring on fight night.”

“I know quite a bit about George. He is young and hungry, has a good amateur pedigree, comes from a good boxing family and looks like a good, talented kid.”

“He will fancy his chances that is for sure and will be looking to put right his defeat in his last fight.”

“He is coming to win and has his own ambitions so it will be a different proposition and a different kind of opponent for me, but this in itself will present its own opportunities.”

“This is why I think I will shine – the better the opposition the better I will perform.”

Davies says preparations for next month’s bout have been going to plan.

He added: “I have already enjoyed some tough sparring rounds with Ben Davies, Lloyd ‘The Viking’ Campbell and Mick Hall, with more lined up.”

“I have not made many changes but working on one or two things and also hired a nutritionalist to help ensure my food and weight is spot on.”

“I am feel as fit as I ever have and very strong.”

The Hilton Hotel promotion is a dinner show and Davies says he is expecting a packed house, with Rhodes expected to have his supporters.

Davies said: “It will be a good atmosphere and it is always good to fight in Blackpool, a town I represent every time I step in the ring.“

“Now I am just looking forward to putting in the hard work now over the next 4 weeks and doing the business come fight night.”

Also on the Hilton Hotel bill will be Preston middleweight Mick Hall, with the full line up to be finalised.

However, the 37-year-old has only ever been stopped a handful of times during his pro career and knew all the tricks of the trade to survive against his 30-year-old opponent, who in comparison was contesting just his 13th bout.

Davies’ busier style impressed the judge, who scored the six-round contest 60-56 in his favour.

The referee was certainly made to work hard as he had to step in early in the bout to warn McCauley about his spoiling tactics and then gave Davies a talking to in the third as the Blackpool man gave as good as he got.

“It was kind of what I was expecting,” said Davies. “The guy was a 160-odd fight veteran and he knew how survive out there.”

“I never at any particular point felt under any stress with him. He had his explosive moments, but I felt in control.”

“He was tricky and was tough to penetrate. He talked a lot and was twisting my arm. He was trying all the pro tricks on me.”

After improving his overall record to 12-1, Davies is hoping to top the bill in his next outing later this year, hopefully in Blackpool.

“I am hoping to top the bill in my home town in September against an opponent who hopefully has a much more progressive style,” Davies said.

“Believe it or not I think I will perform better against guys who have a better record than the one I fought on Saturday night.”

Kirkham heavyweight Bill Hodgson improved his professional record to eight wins and no defeats with a stoppage win over Tomas Mrazek.

The 34-year-old scored with some heavy body shots as he won all six rounds against the man from the Czech Republic.

“I was pleased,” said Hodgson. “It was my first six-rounder and was a good learning fight. It was good to get the rounds in. I’d had a really good camp coming into the fight so I knew my engine was good. So I’m really happy.”

“But I pay a lot of attention to detail with my figthters and I need to see where he is (in his career).”

“He should beat Kevin McCauley, even though Kevin is a tough kid.”

“If Ryan does beat him, we will move on to a tough eight-rounder and then a title come September or later.”

The stakes are sky-high for Preston boxer Mick Hall when he contests an eliminator for the English middleweight title in front of his home fans at the Guild Hall

Manager Marsh is confident his man will overcome Matthew Mallin, of Barnsley, but warned: “Mick knows that it is is possibly his last chance.

“Mick knows he is better than this and if he turns up, he will beat Mallin.”

It will be Hall’s first fight since being stopped in the 11th round by Blackpool’s Jack Arnfield at the venue in January after he suffered a hideous-looking swelling above his eye.

Marsh, who promotes the fight, said of that experience: “It was a big prize – Arnfield was ranked highly in the world and it was an opportunity Mick had to take.”

“I would haved loved to give Mick an eight-rounder before that, but a fight on ITV in your own home town doesn’t come round every week for these fighters.”

“Though Mick did get beaten by a better man, he has improved for the experience.”

Hall concurred, saying: “I learned a lot from that fight and the injury was not as bad as it looked – I am going to take into the Mallin fight what I learned against Arnfield.

“Mallin is an experienced campaigner, but I have had the better level of opposition – I have fought lads with winning records all the way through my career.”

Included on the undercard is Kirkham heavyweight Bill Hodgson, who puts his unbeaten record on the line against Czech southpaw Tomas Mrazek.

Hodgson looked impressively ripped at the weigh-in at 225 pounds.

His manager Marsh said: “Bill is now an athletic heavyweight, instead of a slugger.”

“It is a step-up in opponent, a tricky southpaw and very experienced, but I expect Bill will be knocking on the door for titles in six months’ time.”

“Alan Levene has done a great job training him. We have given him a lot of learning fights because of his lack of experience.”

“We have not rushed Bill and he is now ready for a crack at something.”

Davies said: “I will be keen to impress.”

“My opponent has yet to be announced, but we have discussed this and it is likely to be a solid, eight-round test and another step up in class.”

“I have spoken with Neil at length about plans for my future and we know exactly where we are heading and what we are aiming for.”

“I am confident he is the right man who can help me achieve this and I hope to repay his faith.”

Davies, whose partner is expecting a baby, said he was happy with his preparation.

He has enlisted the help of Dr George Wilson, an exercise physiologist at Liverpool John Moore’s University.

Davies added: “He has provided me with a whole host of training and dietary advice after a day of testing.”

“I have also enjoyed some good rounds sparring with the likes of Mick Hall; moving to Neil has almost brought me into a camp of fighters, with a number of local fighters under his banner.”

“I have now got to stay completely switched on now for the fight, remain completely profession al and keep getting the wins.”

“The big fights will then come and with that hopefully, the titles I am after.”

Davies said Matty Askin’s victory over Craig Kennedy to win the British Cruiserweight title had been a source of inspiration to him.

He said: “This is really just the start of the journey. I have flown under the radar o a certain extent but feel, after my last fight especially, I am starting to get noticed a little.”

Davies has had 12 professional fights so far, his record being 11 wins and one defeat at the hands of William Warburton.

Davies recently secured a sponsorship deal with sportswear firm SKINS.

The Preston promotion will also feature Preston middleweight Hall in his first fight since losing tat the Preston venue to Blackpool’s Jack Arnfield.

Unbeaten Kirkham heavyweight Bill Hodgson will also be in action.

He said: “I think the scoring was a little harsh, as although it was close and competitive in all rounds, I feel as though the gap was much wider and felt I had it 5-1.”

“I was close to stopping him in the fourth but then got caught myself right at the end of the round but in all honesty I don’t recall being hit clean all that much.”

“I gave away a lot of advantages and was probably giving away close to a stone by the time we got in the ring, but I probably put in my career-best performance.”

Davies added: “The aim is to build on that, going for bigger fights at super welterweight and hunting down domestic titles.”

He has won nearly half of his professional fights and I will not be looking past him, but I am relishing getting back in the ring and looking forward to the task ahead.”

At least three of them will be in action, spearheaded by St Annes boxer Matty Askin taking on Tommy McCarthy in an eliminator for the British cruiserweight title. He will be joined on the bill at the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester by his stable-mate Jack Arnfield, of Stalmine, who is expected to be involved in a six-rounder.

Arnfield is currently on a high after annexing the World Boxing Council international middleweight title in Manchester when he beat Jack Ryder on points.

Blackpool’s R P Davies, victorious at Bolton on Saturday, is also expected to be in action in November on a bill in Manchester.

Davies moved into double-figure victories at Bolton with a six round points success over Duane Green, of Norwich. Reflecting on the win, super-welterweight Davies said he was now ready to kick on.

He said: “It was a tough six rounds; I thought I boxed well for four and the last two became a bit more physical, more of a dog-fight.”

“I believe I have the ability to stop people; a lot of the lads on my record don’t get stopped.”

“If they do it is very few and far between, but I think stoppages will come.”

“I am fighting very experienced lads and they know how to survive in there.”

“I hit Green with some good shots and I think I stunned him a few times, but he knew what to do and he was clever.”

“In the last two rounds I just thought I could have closed the show a little bit sharper.”

Davies, who expects to be on a show at the Bowlers complex in Manchester in November, says that he intends making 2017 the year when he makes the big breakthrough.

He said: “Hopefully next year is my big push. A lot of these lads I am boxing are a lot better than their records suggest.”

“I will be more up for the big fights; they will excite me and make me a better fighter.”

Davies is in action at the Macron Stadium in Bolton, while Rose features at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. Super-welterweight Davies takes on Duane Green, of Norwich, while Rose meets Bulgarian Stiliyan Kostov.

Both boxers are banking on plenty of support, Davies’ followers making the short trip to Bolton, while Rose returns to the city of his birth, where he still has relatives and fans. Davies, who has lost just once in his fledgling career, is happy with the build-up to tomorrow’s fight.

He said: “My camp and preparation has been spot on, “I have had some great sparring rounds with Scott Fitzgerald and Reece Cartwright, and I put the hours in on the pads and with the fitness work.“

“I will be taking quite a large following down the road to Bolton, which is very flattering, and hopefully I can put on a show and get the right result for each and every one of those people who have supported me and continue to do so.”

For Rose, it will mark a much-awaited return to the ring. He has not boxed since April, when he lost to Matthew Macklin at the O2 Arena in London, since which time he has had an operation to repair an injured elbow and has changed management, He is now with the MGM boxing organisation after parting company with Steve Wood.

Rose said: “I feel set to be back to my best. I want people to know that I am still serious.

“I was the best super-welterweight (formerly known as light-middleweight) in Britain for two or three years and there is no reason why I can’t get back there again.”

Rose says that the meeting with Kostov is important on a number of levels, not least for the fact that it marks a return to Birmingham.

He added: “It means a lot to me to be fighting in Birmingham, “I have a lot of family there, so it will be great to have them all supporting me. “I moved to Blackpool when I was nine, so I was there for much of my childhood.”

Though pleased at the victory, Davies said a personality change – inside the ring, that is – might be the bets way going forward if he is to progress up boxing’s greasy pole.

Super-welterweight Davies said: “I am, and pride myself on being, a nice guy, but maybe it’s time to stop taking my outside the ring persona into it.”

“I am not here to make friends and the lads I am fighting and competing with and all out to finish me.”

“It is time to start incorporating a more ruthless edge in my fights and trust me, its there.”

The fight with Puplauskas proved to be tougher than what Davies might have expected; he described the six rounder as his hardest to date.

Davies said: “What was meant to be a ‘warm up fight’ turned into a six-round war with a very game, hard and big kid who clearly came, not only to win, but to knock me out.”

“This was far from my best performance an it certainly wasn’t pretty but the only thing that matters is the win.”

“I had a couple of dodgy moments on the fight but I thought I did more than enough to get the victory and felt the scorecard was a little harsh as I had it a bit wider than one round.”

Davies added: “I always felt as though was in control for the majority and was outboxing him throughout the rounds, but he was always dangerous with his short, aggressive flurries and I got caught with some punches I shouldn’t have.”

“I was buzzed early on in the first round by a powerful right hand that landed straight on my chin, and I took his best shot! It shows I have a decent chin.”

“I will have a short break and then it is a case of moving up to where I want to be.”

He will appear at the Magna venue in Rotherham against an opponent yet to be revealed on a show promoted by Dennis Hobson.

Davies has won eight bouts to date, with one defeat.

Davies says this will be another important fight, with Hobson having plans for title fights later in the year.

Davies said: “I feel I am still under the radar a little bit, probably due to my unlicensed background, lack of amateur pedigree and also my one defeat (to Wiiliam Warburton) in 2015, so I will have to earn the opportunities that come my way.”

“This can only be done by beating whoever is put in front of me. I have keep my feet on the ground and make sure I don’t get complacent.”

“There are no easy fights, and I know my opponent will be tough and coming to win.”

“I have had a great year so far and this camp is going well.”

“Sparring and training is constantly being stepped up and I am feeling stronger, fitter and faster with every fight, every spar and every session.”

“The calibre of sparring has been second to none and has included Jack Arnfield, Scott Fitzgerald and Reece Cartwright.”

“Sparring with guys of this quality is only going to help me improve and develop.”

“The benefits of investing in my own gym are really starting to pay off now.”

Topping the bill is Sam Sheedy against Andrew Camerson in an eliminator for the British and Commonwealth super-welterweight title.
