Recipient of that early win was local favourite RP Davies (real name Ryan) who, with Mark Davies and Sean Thickett in his corner, wore down game Casey Blair, of Bangor, before condemning the Irishman to his sixth successive defeat.

The result produced two firsts, a first inside the distance win for Davies who, seemingly having put a setback at the hands of William Warburton last April behind him, has his eyes on a potential Central Area title later this year, and a first stoppage loss for Alan Wilton-trained Blair, who while bested, never stopped trying and pressed forward regularly.

The Verdict Davies continues to improve following his only career loss, and a shot at the Central Area title beckons.

Providing he comes through this weekend’s bout at the Village Urban Resort unscathed, Davies is in line for his first title fight.

The 28-year-old has been lined up to box Dave Fidler of Sheffield for the Central Area super-welterweight title at the Magna Centre in Rotherham on April 2.

Davies said: “I have had some great sparring rounds with Sam Matkin, Reece Cartwright, Jack Arnfield and Mark Jeffers.”

“The run-up to the fight this week has been all about refinement, speed work and sharpening.”

“I have to establish myself with a solid performance on Saturday, which should lead me on nicely to my next fight.”

“Obviously, what I do know is that this is a very big and important fight for me. The lad is coming over from Ireland looking to win. He has a bit of a different record compared to many of my previous opponents, with a similar number of fights to myself and a better win-to-loss ratio than others I have fought.”

“He will still have ambitions of winning things.”

Davies has won six of his seven fights, compared to Blair’s three out of eight.

The Blackpool boxer added: “I know this will be my toughest test to date and I feel ready.”

“I have known prior to the fight being confirmed, that providing I come through it unscathed I have a Central Area title Fight on April 2.”

“I have tried to keep this quite to an extent and focus on the immediate task in hand, taking things one fight at a time.”

“But as the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed and announced this title fight late last week, I have had to acknowledge that it is in the pipeline.”

The February 20 promotion also features unbeaten Blackpool super-welterweight Alex McCloy and Trevor ‘Wrecking’ Crewe, from Sunderland.

Davies’ Irish opponent Blair has won three and lost five of his eight bouts, while the Blackpool man has won six and lost one to date.

Davies said, “The step up to 8 rounds does not concern me and is something that I am relishing and I regularly exceed 8 rounds in sparring anyway.”

“But I know that this is another tough, tricky test and another step up for me.”

“Making a step up with every bout ensures I am constantly progressing and growing as a fighter. I am 28 but still relatively inexperienced.”

“I am eager to learn and improve and I think I am doing so, thanks in part to my baptism of fire in the professional ranks and my desire and drive to get better.”

“A win in this fight will put me on track for an area title shot later in the year. I am in professional boxing to win things.”

Davies, who is trained by his father Mark and Sean Thickett, has added Steve Easter to his back-up team.

“Steve is a big help and has always been involved, but we just wanted to officially bring him on board.”

“I cannot wait to get back in the ring on February 20th, after a short break since my last fight in December to recharge my batteries after a busy 2015. I feel fit and ready and am raring to put on a show come fight night.”
