]]> Blackpool boxer RP Davies is in proud possession of his first professional belt.

He is the owner of the international challenge title after an eight round points win over Arvydas Trizno at the Urban Village Resort in his home town.

And Davies is vowing to make it the first of many such straps after this conclusive success.

Davies said: “It is my first title as a pro and I hope it will lead to better things like the Central Area and English titles.”

“He was a very tough opponent, ranked number two in Lithuania, and he had gone the distance in his career with Junior Witter.”

The Lithuanian was the second substitute opponent after Dave Fidler and William Warburton had pulled out for various reasons.

But super-welterweight Davies made light of that.

“These things happen in boxing. You just have to accept it and make the best of it. It is all part of the experience. It is never easy in boxing.”

“He was probably the hardest of the three I had been down to fight.”

“Trizno had very a dangerous right hand and he kept trying to load up with it, but I managed to counter it.”

“I am in boxing to win titles against even better men.”

On the same promotion, Blackpool’s Alex McCloy made it six wins out of six with a handy points win over inexperienced Darryl Sharp, of Manchester.

McCloy’s trainer Jeff Thomas was pleased with the super-welterweight’s performance in the six-rounder.

Thomas said: “This was the third southpaw that Alex has faced and he is coming along nicely.”

“He started well and Sharp began to come into it more in the middle rounds, but Alex finished the stronger.”

“Sharp had a point deducted at one stage for hitting Alex on the back of the head.”

“The plan is for Alex to have a bit of a break now and maybe box again in August or September.”
