]]> Blackpool boxer RP Davies spoke of his huge relief after winning his comeback bout against Kieron Gray at The Village in the resort.

It was Davies’ first bout since a shattering loss to William Warburton, which made him question whether he should go on.

The 28-year-old, who won ever round against Telford boxer Gray, said, “It is a massive weight off my shoulders. It crossed my mind to give up boxing after I lost to Warburton and maybe had it not been for my dad (Mark) I would have packed in.”

“I think I have learned from the mistakes I made against Warburton. I didn’t want an easy opponent and Gray is one tough guy, who has fought Anthony Ogogo and Prince Arron.”

Davies came into the fight at a heaviest-ever 11st 8lb, but believes he will compete at light-middleweight in future.

“I am in the sport to prove to myself that I can achieve something. I genuinely believe I will be able to win some kind of title.”

As a result of this fight, Davies has moved into the top 30 rankings in the country.

Blackpool boxer RP Davies bids to get his career back on track in his town tomorrow night.

He fights at The Village, his first bout since a shattering defeat inside two rounds against William Warburton in the spring.

Davies, who takes on Kieron Gray over six rounds tomorrow, is determined to bounce back and has called on the services of nutrition expert Kerry Kayes, who has advised many fighters, including Blackpool’s Brian Rose.

Davies said, “Sparring has gone well and I have got in a lot more rounds during this camp. Kerry has really opened my eyes to nutrition, diet and hydration. “

“He has offered me some great advice and has helped me to correct some things and implement other things into my fight camps, such as eating more regularly and drinking much more water.”

“I am feeling good at the higher weight. I think I am stronger and fitter than I have ever been and am looking forward to fight night.”
